Your Sequence Wallet security

Your security is incredibly important to us

Sequence is a non-custodial wallet, meaning we cannot access any of its contents, nor can anyone else. Only you, the wallet owner, have access to the contents.

The only risk of being hacked exists with someone hacking your email or social account and using it to log into your Sequence Wallet, so be sure to keep access to the email or social account associated with your Sequence Wallet account secure. Enabling Two-factor Authentication (2FA) has proven to be an excellent way of improving security.

To further protect your assets, we’ve invested a great deal of time and money to ensure the security of your digital items and transactions. In fact, we've conducted multiple independent security audits, performed by ConsenSys Diligence, Quantstamp, and others, on our smart contracts to make sure our contracts are secure. We’ll announce additional measures for enhanced security in the future.

While we continually do our best and have performed multiple security audits to ensure the security and integrity of the wallet, please be mindful that no software is perfectly secure. Please manage your items and cryptocurrencies accordingly and due your own diligence.

Manage Your Active Sessions

Sequence Wallet allows you to manage your active sessions easily. It's good practice to regularly check active sessions and sign out of older sessions you might have on different devices. This prevents unauthorized access to your wallet outside of your current session from other devices or browsers.

Managing your active sessions is easy:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Active Sessions
  2. You will see your current active session at the top. Scroll down to see other sessions.
  3. Next to "Other Active Session Keys", click the "Select All" button
  4. Click the "Sign out" button that pops up from the bottom. This will remove all sessions other than your current one.
  5. If you choose, you can also sign out of specific sessions one by one. Device type and last seen information will be shown in each panel when available.

Create A Recovery Key

Improve your account security with a recovery key. A recovery key allows you to access your wallet even if you lose access to your main authentication method. Using a recovery key is a great way to secure your account.

If you lose your recovery key or suspect that someone else knows it, you can always create a new one and your old key will be deleted.

Here is how to create a recovery key from scratch:

  1. Navigate to Settings by clicking on your wallet address found at the top of the page.

  1. Click on Account Recovery
  2. Set up your recovery key by clicking Create New Recovery Key

  1. Go through the setup flow, and make sure your recovery key is stored securely. Ideally you should store it in an encrypted store.
  2. Once your recovery key is setup, you can use it to recover your account from sequence.app by clicking on More Options > Account Recovery!Account Recovery

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Those familiar with other crypto wallets may think you need a seed phrase that you must store and memorize. Not the case with the Sequence Wallet!

We make keeping your wallet secure easy and intuitive without compromising on security—no seed phrase required! All you need is access to your email address or social account, so be sure to keep access to the email or social account associated with your Sequence Wallet secure.

We highly recommend enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for the email or social account that you use to log into your Sequence Wallet as an added security measure.

Setting up a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):

We especially recommend setting up 2FA with an app, such as Google Authenticator. Having a correctly-set 2FA makes account theft almost impossible (someone would have to get hold of both your password and your phone); thus, this should be enabled for all your important platforms.
